  2. Presentation

The subject of Teaching Life and Culture in the UK is a core subject in the Primary Education Degree for future teachers of English. In its didactic aspect, the goal is for students to be able to integrate the teaching and learning of cultural content with the teaching of a foreign language in order to develop sociocultural competence in primary school children, always in accordance with the guidelines set by the Common European Framework and the current Spanish education law.

The treatment of information about this student body, in compliance with the LOPD, is strictly confidential.

    ASSESSMENT

In the assessment process, Article 135.1(v) of the Statutes of the University of Murcia, Article 8.6 of the Student Assessment Regulations (REVA), and Instruction SG 18/2026 issued by the Secretary General of the University of Murcia, which interprets these provisions, shall apply. The instruction is available at the following link: https://sede.um.es/sede/documento/normativa/instruccion-del-secretario-general-sg-18-2026-sobre-la-interpretacion-y-aplicacion-del-art-135-1-v-estatutos-umu/24199.pdf

Students are also reminded that Article 22.1 of the Student Assessment Regulations (REVA) provides that "any student who engages in fraudulent conduct, including the improper misrepresentation of identity or authorship, or who is in possession of means or instruments that facilitate such conduct, shall receive a grade of zero in the assessment process and may, where appropriate, be subject to disciplinary sanctions following the initiation of disciplinary proceedings."

    REMARKS FROM THE TEACHING STAFF

    Clarification on the Assessment Systems:

To pass the subject, students must pass both the final exam and the oral test with a 50% mark, independently. The average grade for the subject will be calculated after applying the corresponding percetage, provided that these prerequisites have been met.

Students are expected to attend all regularly scheduled lessons. If they don't, in addition to the final exam, they will have to complete a written assignment and an audiovisual recording in which he or she will present a PowerPoint in English on a topic, chosen by the professor, from among the contents of the subject. These assignments are essential requirements to be able to take the exam for the subject, and must be submitted BEFORE the exam date, and always more than one week in advance.

Article 10 of the Student Evaluation Regulation (REVA) establishes that “students who demonstrate justified circumstances that prevent them from taking the assessment tests under equal conditions may request the subject coordinator or teacher to make the necessary adjustments to guarantee their right to be assessed”.

Assessment Component SE6 will be reassessed through a presentation or other assessment determined by the instructor. The assessment will take place on the date specified in the examination notice published on the Virtual Learning Environment.

    SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs)

The subject is directly linked to the Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Quality Education”.

This syllabus may be modified according to the needs of the students.
