  2. Presentation

In compliance with national regulations, all school teachers in Spain must undertake tasks of support and guidance. Thus, they must be capable of innovating and improving their teaching as a result of gathering empirical evidence of learning processes, outcomes, students' progress, etc. This involves conducting research in the field of education, as well as having sound knowledge of what it means to be a tutor. In light of this, it is crucial that trainee teacher learn research skills that will allow them to carry out their duties as a tutor (by innovating, for instance) as effectively as possible.

This course guideline shows the main contents and skills that first year Primary Education students will learn regarding research and the role of tutors providing learning support and guidance. There is flexibility in the structure and approach implemented in each study group. The number and specific features of class assignments, teaching methodology, and assessment procedures implemented in the bilingual group will be adapted to the needs of this group.

    SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

Those students with disabilities or special educational needs may contact the Service of Attention to Diversity and Volunteering (ADYV - https://www.um.es/adyv) to receive guidance on better use of their training process and, where appropriate, the adoption of measures of equalization and improvement for inclusion, under the Rectoral Resolution R-358/2016. The treatment of information about this student body, in compliance with the LOPD, is strictly confidential.

    ASSESSMENT

In the assessment process, Article 135.1(v) of the Statutes of the University of Murcia, Article 8.6 of the Student Assessment Regulations (REVA), and Instruction SG 18/2026 issued by the Secretary General of the University of Murcia, which interprets these provisions, shall apply. The instruction is available at the following link: https://sede.um.es/sede/documento/normativa/instruccion-del-secretario-general-sg-18-2026-sobre-la-interpretacion-y-aplicacion-del-art-135-1-v-estatutos-umu/24199.pdf

Students are also reminded that Article 22.1 of the Student Assessment Regulations (REVA) provides that "any student who engages in fraudulent conduct, including the improper misrepresentation of identity or authorship, or who is in possession of means or instruments that facilitate such conduct, shall receive a grade of zero in the assessment process and may, where appropriate, be subject to disciplinary sanctions following the initiation of disciplinary proceedings."

    REMARKS FROM THE TEACHING STAFF

    • Students must show a command of skills taught in both course modules (counselling and research).
    • To pass the course, students must score a minimum mark of 5 out of 10 in each assessment system: Written
    • test (exam, 50%), Written reports, assignments and projects (40%) and Continuous assessment based on
    • evidence of participation and progress (10%).
    • In the event that a student has a justified personal situation that prevents him or her from attending compulsory training activities, he or she must inform the teacher at the beginning of the course so alternative assessment procedures may apply.
    • Those assignments which require students to be physically present in class because of the skills involved (e.g., teamwork) will not be applicable to students who do not attend classes regularly. Thus, in the assessment procedures that include the evaluation of the students' face-to-face performance (groupwork in assignments), those students who do not attend class (or fail such assessment procedures) will have to be assessed by means of alternative assessment procedures.
    • All practical assignments will be carried out in groups of a maximum of 6 students.
    • The marks obtained in the assessment systems of continuous assessment that have been passed will be kept,

at least, until the course is taught again in the following academic year, unless the student requests their recovery (see points 8 to 11 of these remarks).

    • All class sessions of this course have both theoretical and practical contents, so students are strongly advised to attend classes regularly.
    • The criteria on spelling and writing approved by the Faculty Board shall apply: https://www.um.es/documents/d/ educacion/criterios-ortograficos-facultad-de-educacion. In all assessment procedures, lack of accuracy in English will also be penalised.
    • In the term in which the course is taught, there is no right to recover the continuous assessment made up of assessment systems SE3 (Written reports, assignments and projects) and SE6 (Continuous assessment based on evidence of participation and progress), except in the cases of Article 8.6 of the REVA. In such cases, the global test will consist of the written test described in assessment system SE1 (50%), the individual submission of the assignments and practical work set out in this syllabus, or the completion of practical activities on a specific day and time to be announced in the call (one recovery option or the other will apply as indicated by the teacher in charge) (SE3, 40%), and complementary activities included in the exam that certify the learning outcomes associated with participation (SE6, 10%). This global test respects the assessment systems and the weighting ranges established in the course record of the verified report (SE1 between 40% and 60%, SE3 between 30% and 60%, and SE6 between 5% and 10%), ensuring the possibility of obtaining the maximum overall mark for the course.
    • The marks obtained in the passed continuous-assessment systems will be kept in subsequent calls, at least until the course is taught again in the following academic year, unless the student requests their recovery. In the calls following the one in which teaching takes place, students may request the recovery of assessment systems SE3 and SE6 that they have not passed, including the achievement of the minimum required to pass the course. Students who wish to recover their mark must notify this by means of a private message addressed to both teachers through the Virtual Classroom within the five days following the publication of the call and, in any case, before taking the recovery test or activity; once submitted, the option is binding and irrevocable. If no choice is made within the set period, the mark obtained in the continuous assessment will be kept. Assessment system SE3 will be recovered by submitting the assignments through the "Tareas" tool of the Virtual Classroom within the deadlines indicated in the call, or by completing practical activities on a specific day and time to be announced in the call (one recovery option or the other will apply as indicated by the teacher in charge); assessment system SE6, by means of the complementary activities included in the exam, with its equivalent weight (10%). The mark obtained in the recovery will replace the previous one and will be integrated into the final mark with the weighting established in this syllabus. Assessment system SE1, by its nature as a final test, is held in each official call, which also allows the required minimum to be recovered.
    • This course is directly linked to Sustainable Development Goal #4: Quality Education.
