SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
This subject is directly linked to the Sustainable Development Goals: No 4 "Quality Education" and No 10 "Reducing Inequalities".
OBJECTIVES
The main objective of this subject is to understand and explain the nature, characteristics and determinants of teaching in Primary Education classrooms, and to formulate guidelines in relation to the processes of planning, development and evaluation of the curriculum It, therefore, seeks to promote the acquisition and mastery of the most characteristic knowledge, techniques and skills of the teaching profession.
All of this, in a climate that fosters teamwork with other professionals, with the aim of contributing to the development of an ethical commitment to the teaching profession, which also requires the need for continuous training and updating based on reflective, active and critical positions.
Consequently, this subject is closely related to the other subjects taught in this Degree, as it aims, on the one hand, to provide students with a conceptual framework that allows them to understand education in relation to the current culture and society and, on the other hand, to provide them with knowledge for reflection on curricular content and assessment criteria in Primary Education, all aspects that will continue to be addressed in the other subjects of the Degree.
COURSE MATERIALS
The teaching team of the subject has prepared different materials so that the subject can be followed both in and out of class hours.
The resources folder contains a selection of different types of resources (audiovisual, textual, etc) that will help to develop each of the units. The work and/or study of these resources will be essential to be able to understand the subject. Below are some of the basic resources that will be used in the development of each of the units.
PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES
Different practical activities will be proposed whose form of presentation and exposition will be communicated to the students by the teaching team, they will be programmed in the virtual classroom calendar, supervised by the teacher in the classroom and created as homework in the virtual classroom where they will also be delivered.
The practical tasks will be carried out, mostly, in work groups and the competences of group work will be developedand group work competencies will be developed, however, individual work will will be required in some activities.
Practical tasks in the conventional classroom setting will be carried out predominantly in work groups, aiming to foster teamwork skills, although some activities may involve individual work. In order to receive a grade for this assessment component, regular attendance at the sessions in which these tasks are conducted is required (these may involve full-class or split-group sessions).
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the completion of course tasks must be ethical, critical, and aligned with the learning objectives. Such use will be subject to specific guidelines established by the course instructors, who may restrict, guide, or authorize its use depending on the pedagogical design of each activity. Additionally, instructors may implement, where deemed appropriate, complementary verification mechanisms—such as interviews, oral defenses, individual presentations, or other procedures—in order to verify the student’s genuine involvement in the submitted work and to uphold academic integrity in the evaluation process.
Four-month Practice
Application of Service-Learning and Project-Based Learning methodologies to the Design of a learning situation/ Didactic Unit: creation of real teaching-learning situations
The aim of this practice is mainly to learn how to design and plan teaching-learning situations that include all the curricular elements and activities that respond to Bloom's taxonomy from an approach of active student participation. Through its elaboration, students will have to make decisions and reflect on the aims of education, the educational meaning of the primary education stage, the competences, the objectives, etc The elaboration of this practice will be developed throughout the four-month period, and the practice will progress as the theoretical part of the subject progresses in order to complement both processes. Two active methodologies are applied in the development of this activity: service-learning and project-based learning. We collaborate with real primary schools, to which the plans drawn up by the students are given to provide feedback during their elaboration and are made available to the schools to be applied once the projects have been completed.
In addition to this basic practice, different practical tasks will be carried out to analyze, develop proposals and reflect on relevant aspects of the contents of the subject, such as the creation of an e-portfolio to reflect on learning, analysis and documentation of regulations and the creation of a digital storytelling using arrificial inteligence, etc.
OBSERVATIONS REGARDING THE ASSESMENT SYSTEM
Only if the written examination for the course is passed (SE1: at least 2.5 out of 5 points in this assessment component) will the marks obtained in the other assessment components (SE3, SE4, and SE6) be added to the final grade.
During the academic term in which this course is taught, there is no opportunity to retake the continuous assessment components (SE3, SE4, and SE6), except in cases covered by Article 8.6 of the REVA Regulations due to unforeseen circumstances that are duly documented. In such cases, the overall assessment will consist of an oral theoretical–practical examination (50%) and the submission of the required coursework (50%).
The continuous assessment grade will be carried forward to subsequent examination sessions until the course is taught again, unless the student requests to retake it. If a student does not attend the examination or fails to submit the required coursework, their record will show "Absent" (No Presentado).
For the second and third examination sessions, students may request to retake the assessment components SE3 (Written reports, assignments, and projects), SE4 (Public presentation of assignments), and SE6 (Participation and progress). This retake option is available only to students who have failed or received a "No Presentado" (Absent) status in these assessment components.
The resit option may be requested by sending a message through the Virtual Learning Environment to the course instructor within five calendar days following the publication of the resit announcement on the Virtual Learning Environment.
These assessment components may be resat by submitting the assigned tasks and practical exercises through the "Assignments" tool within the deadlines specified in the resit announcement published on the course site, as well as by completing an oral interview demonstrating understanding of the submitted work.
All academic activities and assignments must be original. Cases of total or partial plagiarism will be penalized with a grade of 0 for the assessment component in which plagiarism is detected.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in completing course assignments must be ethical, critical, and consistent with the learning objectives. Such use shall be subject to the specific guidelines established by the course instructor, who may restrict, guide, or permit their use depending on the instructional design of each activity.
In addition, where deemed appropriate, the instructor may implement supplementary verification procedures—such as interviews, oral defenses, individual presentations, or other assessment methods—to confirm the student's genuine involvement in the submitted work and to ensure the academic integrity of the assessment process.
TUTORIALS AND GUIDANCE
Every week the teacher will be available for 6 hours of tutorial: face to face at the office, or virtually to help you in the development of the course and to clarify any doubts that may arise during the learning process.
